This Slip Yoke Eliminator Kit is designed to fit 1987 to 2006 Jeep® YJ and TJ Wranglers with the NP231J Transfer Case
The model NP231 transfer case is a compact, chain-driven transfer case manufactured by New Venture Gear (New Process Gear) in Syracuse, New York. Since the early 80's, the model 231 has been used in many vehicles and is designated as follows: NP231C = GM S-10, S-15 trucks & Blazers 1983 - 1991, NP231D = Dodge midsize and fullsize trucks, NP231J = Jeep YJ's, TJ's, and some XJ's. This transfer case was first introduced in Jeep Wranglers in 1988 after replacing a 1-year run of NP207 transfer cases.
All "J" models of the NP231 are not created the same. There are internal differences among different year models and this kit has been designed to be compatible with each version. Our fixed yoke kit has been installed in hundreds of V8 equipped Wranglers (small block and big block) to date without a single shaft failure. Because of this success, the new output shaft carries a Lifetime Replacement Warranty.
The following rear driveshafts must be used when installing the slip yoke eliminator kit:
A. 16592.01, 1987 to 1993 Wranglers with 0 to 3" of lift.
B. 16592.02, 1987 to 1993 Wranglers with over 3" of lift.
C. 16592.03, 1994 to 1995 Wranglers with 0 to 3". The u-joints on this application are 3 5/8" wide.
D. 16592.04, 1994 to 1995 Wranglers with over 3" of lift. The u-joints on this application are 3 5/8" wide.
E. 16592.05, 1997 to 2006 TJ Wranglers with 2" to 6" of lift.
NOTE:
A. Some early NP231 produced from 1987 – 1990 have the vacuum switch for the front axle disconnect housed in the rear output shaft housing. This kit is supplied with a new housing that does not allow for the vacuum switch to be reused for this applications. It will be necessary to purchase a cable operated disconnect manufactured by 4x4 Posi-Lock or replace the front passenger side axles with later solid axle shafts.
